Supercharging the degree planning process

When you read our background on this site, you will see that one of the founders of AutoDP created the first computerized degree planning system in 1990 as an Education Officer in San Francisco. He took the system to Alaska in 1991 to serve the thousands stationed in the USCG there, then served as the Service Chief of Education for the entire U.S. Coast Guard from 1993 through 1998, training a staff to use the system for nationwide support. In 1998, the system was converted to MS Access-based programming, but the system still remained only semi-automated. It was after he retired in 1999 and joined programmers from DANTES to create the world's first automated degree planning system that unparalleled processing speeds were attained. When comparing the speed with which our AutoDP systems operate, now in our fourth generation, the processing of students has truly been supercharged! The combination of the expertise that we have in higher education administration with that of high-end decision support system database design has lead to the success that we have seen over these past years. This system is the fastest ever created, making it possible for a small staff to provide support to thousands of students. Just how fast can this process be? We had one college who challenged us to a test: They pointed out that we claimed the system was the most rho bust system degree auditing system in the nation and the only one capable of digitally streaming in all forms of both traditional and non-traditional college credit into the curricula of degrees. They asked us to process a group of 100 military students pursuing degrees at their university and sent via FedEx a box with 100 folders containing their transcripts from colleges previously attended, their military transcripts, their college level examination score reports and other information that might be important in the processing of the students. Of course, they also provided a list of which degrees each student was interested in pursuing. When FedEx delivered the box, one of our staff members took the challenge and called the university to let them know it had been received and the work was underway. We restricted the demonstration to allow only one of our staff to process the students. Two days later, after a little more than 17 hours of work invested, the box was ready for FedEx to pick up and return to the university, each folder containing a comprehensive educational assessment showing all of the credit the student had earned in the past and degree plans from the university showing how the credit applies to the curricula of their degrees. (Note: The system saves the date-time stamp and the counselor's name, which is printed at the bottom of each document created. As such, the university could see that it truly was a single staff member who processed the students.)

Needless to say, the university was quite impressed with the demonstration. In fact, after they received the box from FedEx, they contacted us and asked how quickly we could build a system for them to acquire for their staff to use to support all of their students. Within a couple of weeks, we had two staff members on a plane flying to their destination to install their system and train their staff.
