Instantly Create SOC Student Agreements

An important function for SOC Network Colleges

Although there are more than 1,800 colleges and universities that are Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC) General Members, while approximately ten percent of these are SOC Network Colleges.  These service-specific networks include SOCNAV (for the Navy), SOCMAR (for the Marines), SOCAD (for the Army), and SOCCoast (for the Coast Guard).  One of the key purposes of the networks is to minimize loss of credit in transfer by having the participating colleges and universities agree to accept selected courses in transfer.  These participants review the content of the courses of other participants in the same network and commit to accepting them in transfer, resulting in the assignment of a SOC Category Code to the course.  If your college is a SOC Network College, we will display the appropriate SOC Category Codes to the subjects in your curricula in which you have participated in this process.

There are more actually more than 20,000 courses that have been reviewed by SOC Network Colleges over the past 32 years, the listing of which is referred to as the SOC Guaranteed Transferability (GT) Tables.  All of these courses are included in the AutoDP system and have a special code embedded which displays a "GT" identifier beside the course to let your advisors know that the course is one of those which has been reviewed.  As such, if your college or university is considering not accepting the credit in transfer for the student being supported, take a closer look.  If it is listed in the Network to which you belong, you may be obligated to accept it in transfer.

If your college or university is a SOC Network College, you know from experience that you are required to submit a SOC Student Agreement for military members who are pursuing your degrees.  This can be a time-consuming exercise which requires you to explain the source of all the credits which were applied to the servicemember's degree.  As such, you must examine each military credit and find out if it originated from an MOS or Rating or from a service school.  College credit-by-examination that is applied to the degree must also be listed - in its respective column by the type of test that was accepted.  As you know by now, this process can take a half-hour to an hour to complete...unless you have AutoDP to use.  Creating a SOC Student Agreement takes one click of a button and it instantly appears, with all the blocks filled out, ready for signature.  How is this possible?  Because the AutoDP system is tracking the origination of the credit which is applied to your degrees in the background, making it possible to stream the data into the form as required by SOC.  This feature will save your college or university a significant number of hours of work each week as you support military students.
